Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
Licorice Root is a harmonizer. In traditional systems from Ayurveda to Western herbalism, it’s known as a “companion herb” — one that doesn’t dominate, but instead amplifies, cushions, and extends the work of others. In Mobility Unchained, Licorice Root plays a quiet but essential role: it soothes, carries, and protects.
Its anti-inflammatory properties are well-documented, but what sets Licorice apart is its dual action. It calms irritation in tissues while supporting adrenal resilience — helping the body modulate stress responses that often amplify pain. When joints feel dry, brittle, or inflamed, Licorice brings moisture. When the system is fatigued from chronic discomfort, it offers gentle support.
Licorice Root also enhances absorption. In layered formulations, it acts like a bridge — helping other herbs reach their targets more effectively and stay active longer. This is especially important in topical applications, where penetration and synergy matter. In our salve, Licorice Root helps Ghost Pipe and Jamaican Dogwood do their work more deeply, more gently, and with longer-lasting impact.
Energetically, Licorice is softening. It’s for tissues that feel depleted, for systems that have been running too hard for too long. Its sweet, earthy nature brings a sense of ease — not sedation, but restoration. It’s the herb that says: “You don’t have to brace anymore.”
Our extraction method preserves this softness. We use a low-heat infusion to retain its polysaccharides and triterpenes — the compounds responsible for its soothing and adaptogenic effects. Sourced from organically grown roots, our Licorice is prepared in a way that honors its role as both healer and helper.
Founder’s Note
Licorice Root has always felt like a balm — not just for the body, but for the process. When I’m formulating, it’s the herb I reach for when things feel too sharp, too fast, too dry. It rounds the edges. It brings cohesion. In Mobility Unchained, it’s the quiet force that holds the formula together — supporting connective tissue, extending relief, and reminding the body that comfort can be sustained.
